Kantar, the world’s leading marketing data and analytics company, today announced the results of its 2025 US PoweRanking® survey, the industry benchmark of manufacturer and retailer performance. Walmart and PepsiCo once again claim the top spots as the industry’s most powerful retailer and manufacturer, respectively. The report also found that in a year defined by market fluctuation and growth challenges, “relevance” is key to both retailer and manufacturer growth.
Now in its 29th year, the Kantar PoweRanking® reflects the perspectives of hundreds of leading retailers and manufacturers. The 2025 study marks a pivotal moment for the industry, as “value” has become table stakes and the focus shifts to winning shopper relevance through precision, innovation, and technology.
“After two years where value dominated trading conversations, the American consumer is now demanding more: frictionless, personalized experiences and breakthrough innovation,” said Jeffrey Maloy, Vice President, Commerce Strategy Practice, at Kantar, “The industry is at a disruptive inflection point, and those who recalibrate for relevance will define the next era of growth.”

Technology Leading the Way
Technology leadership is a key growth driver in the 2025 Kantar PoweRanking, with top companies recognized for enterprise-wide adoption of advanced analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence to deliver seamless omnichannel experiences and respond quickly to changing shopper behaviors. The 2025 Kantar PoweRanking® reveals a retail and manufacturing landscape in the midst of a “relevance reset,” where digital innovation, data analytics, and shopper-centric strategies are the new drivers of success. As Walmart and PepsiCo continue to lead, the industry’s top performers are those who embrace technology, build ambitious innovation pipelines, and forge meaningful connections through media networks. In a rapidly evolving marketplace, relevance is not just an advantage—it’s essential for growth and long-term leadership.
Leading companies are harnessing digital platforms to personalize offers, optimize supply chains, and drive innovation across marketing and merchandising. By continually piloting and scaling new technologies, they embed digital transformation into their growth strategies—boosting operational efficiency, strengthening partner collaboration, and unlocking new ways to engage consumers in a rapidly evolving retail landscape.
“The power of the 'reset' we're referring to is that it is not one player, one side of the trading relationship, or one aspect of doing business that needs to sharpen its relevance to the consumer - this is a more holistic challenge across the industry," says Rohan Mazumdar, Partner, Consulting for Commerce Strategy at Kantar.
